On 25th February, Globally Local staged a new round of Green Dragons Den - one year on from the launch version in the Town Hall.
On this occasion the presentations were before an audience of mainly school students, assembled for their ECO SCHOOLS AWARDS.
PRESENTATIONS
These included:-
Paul Birch of Revolver Records with their new not for profit Fair Trade arm "Revolver World". Their Fair Trade organic cotton T shirts are making an appearance in locations including The Co-op, using an imaginative packaging approach to the problem of retailing in non-fashion outlets.
TURTLE BAGS from Stourport were again represented with their range of renewable fibre bags, and their campaign work with the Marine Conservation Society making people aware of the devastating impact our addiction to plastic bags has on these creatures.
SPECIAL GUEST MUATH from Saudi Arabia, gave an electrifying presentation on the development of a RECYCLING PROJECT in their second city JEDDAH. (see the item under "Green Drinks" for more information.)
Our distinguished "Green Dragons" panel included:-
Professor Rex Harris - Birmingham University and responsible for the development of the hydrogen powered canal boat which featured in the summer Climate Change Festival; the boat will come into the city during Changing Lifestyles; Jeremy Piercy- founder of Shared Earth who have a shop in New Street; Rianne C. ten Veen - Board of Mangement member for Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environmental Sciences, and community media activist.
